self in song

i was tagged by S over at modern-guilt.com to do a post featuring a song that you feel accurately represents your personality and style. it was really hard for me honestly, because i think at the very heart of it i'm not so sure the two always jive for me.
alot of times my personality is like a bear who really just longs for hibernation and my style is like a little girl waiting for the first day of school.

well, the first song i chose is the first one that came to my head when i saw i'd been tagged and the one i'd say is closest to my heart - i sing it to soothe myself almost daily:

"undo" by bjork

it's not meant to be a strife
it's not meant to be a struggle uphill

you're trying too hard
surrender
give yourself in
you're trying too hard
you're trying too hard

it's not meant to be a strife
it's not meant to be a struggle uphill
sweetly
to enjoy
it's not meant to be a strife
it's not meant to be a struggle uphill

it's warmer now : lean into it
unfold in a generous way
surrender
surrender
undo

it's not meant to be a strife
it's not meant to be a struggle uphill

i'm praying
to be
in a generous mode
the kindness kind
the kindness kind
to share me
quietly ecstatic

it's not meant to be a strife
it's not meant to be a struggle uphill

undo

undo: if you're bleeding
undo: if you're sweating
undo: if you're crying

undo

(u n r a v e l)

and then the second song i chose because not only does it feature my name, but it's fabulous song writing - poetic and graceful. and it might just tell a little secret about why i need the first song too - the duality of the sleeping bear and teeming child.

"margaret vs. pauline" by neko case

everything's so easy for pauline
everthing's so easy for pauline
ancient strings set feet a light to speed to her such mild grace
no monument of tacky gold
they smoothed her hair with cinnamon waves
and they placed an ingot in her breast to burn cool and collected
fate holds her firm in its cradle and then rolls her for tender pause to savor
everything's so easy for pauline

girl with the parking lot eyes
margaret is the fragments of a name
her bravery mistaken for the thrashing in the lake
of the make-believe monster whose picture was faked
margaret is the fragments of a name
her love pours like a fountain
her love steams like rage
her jaw aches from wanting and she's sick from cholrine
but she'll never be as clean
as the cool side of satin, pauline

two girls ride the blue line
two girls walk down the same street
one left her sweater sittin' on the train
the other lost three fingers at the cannery
everything's so easy for pauline

now i "tag" buoy and theclotheshorse and thriftcandy - but only if you feel like it! no pressure.

Thanks for the tag, though I'll tell you right now, I am notoriously bad at doing tags in a timely fashion! I'll see if I can come up with something though :)

Your song choices are awesome.
